My 4Culture grant-funded full-length album "The Canary Collective: Vol 1" is my contribution to the dialogue amongst humans on this planet about who deserves to be able to afford healthcare, clean air, water, food, and shelter. It's me singing my sensitive soul song in the coal mine. I collaborated with other "womxn and queers" such as Luz Elena Mendoza of band Y La Bamba and Nataly Dawn of Pomplamoose to make a Cat Power and Sufjan Stevens-inspired collage of poetry, songs, and TED Talk quotes. I hope to continue to use my music and unique performance style to get people talking and singing about the ties between our healing bodies and our healing ecosystems on this planet.
lyrics
Met a space traveller,
Looked like she’d lost track of time
She was moving fast, bent towards me in a straight line
I said, “you look familiar, have I seen you before?”
She filled my palm with ice and kicked me out the door
My feet, they faltered, I tumbled to the ground
Because the Earth was turning, I just fell without a sound
She led me through the trees ‘til we’d reached a giant fire
I held out my hand, but the ice, its time had expired
I was too parched and weak
But the traveler chose now to speak
She said…
I’ve been to the future
And we could have won
So don’t exit now ‘til all is said and done
Please don’t drop this ball around the sun
Please don’t drop this ball around the sun
Now
The light before us flared, she stared, I blocked my eyes
I fumbled for her hand, but then to my surprise
While standing by I learned I was now chosen
It’s now years ago, with the last water frozen
And I’ve been to the future
And we (could have) won
So don’t exit now ‘til all is said and done
Please don’t drop this ball around the sun
Please don’t drop this ball around the sun
Don’t give up now ‘til all is said and done. Don’t give up now ‘til all is said and done.
