about

ABOUT THE ALBUM:

My 4Culture grant-funded full-length album "The Canary Collective: Vol 1" is my contribution to the dialogue amongst humans on this planet about who deserves to be able to afford healthcare, clean air, water, food, and shelter. It's me singing my sensitive soul song in the coal mine. I collaborated with other "womxn and queers" such as Luz Elena Mendoza of band Y La Bamba and Nataly Dawn of Pomplamoose to make a Cat Power and Sufjan Stevens-inspired collage of poetry, songs, and TED Talk quotes. I hope to continue to use my music and unique performance style to get people talking and singing about the ties between our healing bodies and our healing ecosystems on this planet.

lyrics

Looked for your face
In a pale hospital ward
All I saw was grace
Posted on an announcement board

I saw the string
Pinned from one cork to another
I heard phones ring
But I missed calls from my mother

The focus group
Cried what are we doing here?
We’re in a feedback loop
And I can’t seem to break this mirror

But what if something
Was beating from the other side?
Rooting for loving
To surface from the place it hides?

I don’t think that we are alone (as much as we think, no)
I don’t think that there’s no hope

If I know one thing
It’s that we don’t know much at all
You post your labels
And over time I watch them fall

I look for faces
But maybe I should look for lines
Beyond horizons
One-sided glass’s other side

I don’t think that we are alone (as much as we think, no)
I don’t think that there’s no hope (as much as we think, no)
I don’t think that we are alone (as much as we think, no)
I don’t think that there’s no hope
But I don’t know
I don’t know
